Have You Noticed The Burden Is Lighter When The One We Are Trying To Please Is God?

Good Morning Friends,

We all learn to play the social and religious “games” of our group, unspoken expectations, shared values, subtle pressures. And when others don’t follow our rules, frustration rises. Their expectations differ from ours, and suddenly we feel pulled into conflicts we never chose. One group plays one game, another group plays another game, and the result is confusion, judgment, and distraction. The deeper question is this: Are we becoming obstacles to someone else’s faith? When we try to please people, the burden grows heavy. But when the One we aim to please is God, the weight becomes lighter. Today we seek wisdom to love others without being trapped by their demands, resting in Christ’s clear and gentle voice. Have you noticed the burden is lighter when the One we are trying to please is God?

Scripture Summaries

Deuteronomy 7:6–11

God chose Israel not because of their strength but because of His love and covenant faithfulness. He calls His people to obey Him as an expression of belonging to Him.

1 John 4:7–16

God is love. He revealed that love by sending His Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. When we love one another, God’s life is made visible in us.

Matthew 11:25–30

Jesus reveals the Father to the humble. He invites the weary to come to Him, promising rest under His gentle and light yoke.

Romans 8:9, 11–13

Those who belong to Christ live by the Spirit, not the flesh. The Spirit who raised Jesus gives life and empowers us to put sin to death.

Zechariah 9:9–10

The promised King comes humbly, bringing peace and establishing a kingdom that stretches across the earth.

Message: Friends, God reveals Himself so that the burden of sin may be lifted and our journey made lighter, even in suffering. As Israel was called holy, so in Christ we are called into a new righteousness. We are chosen, loved, and redeemed, not because of our merit but because God set His heart on us. The heart of Jesus is the place where the Father’s love shines most clearly. There we discover we are known, welcomed, and understood. Remembering that first moment when Christ touched our lives renews our love for Him and reminds us that His way frees us from slavery to sin. To abide in Christ’s heart is to let His love spill into the world around us. This is how burdens are carried. You cannot please everyone, Jesus Himself didn’t. Some people will always find fault. But rejecting His yoke only leaves us exhausted and ineffective.

And So, Jesus invites us to rest, to stop striving for the approval of others and to live from the peace of His presence. Look at His life: He spent time with the broken, the needy, the forgotten, but He also withdrew to pray and to rest. His holiness was not only in what He did but in who He was.

Pray we turn our hearts toward God’s purpose. Pray the heart of Christ frees us to free others. Pray we learn His heart by dwelling in His love. Pray we stand with hurting people as Jesus did. Pray we care more for people than for protocol. Pray we meet physical needs as a doorway to spiritual care. Pray our hearts form a community of holy love. Pray we release what we cannot carry and trust God to hold it. Pray the Spirit guides our steps and measures our burdens.

Blessings,

John Lawson
