Good Morning Friends,
If you’ve walked with Jesus for any length of time, you’ve felt the tension: I know who He is… but I’m not yet like Him. And that gap — that ache — is not a sign of failure. It’s a sign of life. It’s evidence that the Spirit is at work, pulling you forward, refusing to let you settle for a version of yourself that looks more like the world than the Savior. Are You Becoming Like Jesus?
Scripture:
Romans 8:29 — “For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son…”
Colossians 1:28 — “Him we proclaim… that we may present everyone mature in Christ.”
John 15:4 — “Abide in me, and I in you.”
Message: Becoming like Jesus isn’t behavior modification. It’s not moral polish. It’s not “try harder.” It’s resurrection life invading dead places. It’s the Spirit taking the raw material of your story — the wounds, the habits, the victories, the failures — and shaping them into something that looks like Christ.
And here’s the good news: God is more committed to your transformation than you are. The gospel is not just the doorway into Christianity, it’s the house we live in. Transformation is not a side project; it’s the very thing God is doing in every believer.
Three anchors hold this together:
- God initiates transformation. Romans 8:29 is not a threat; it’s a promise. God has already set His intention for you — conformity to Christ.
- Christ is the pattern and the power. Colossians 1:28 doesn’t call us to imitate Jesus in our own strength. It calls us to proclaim Him so that His life becomes ours.
- The Spirit is the agent of change. John 15:4 is the heartbeat of sanctification: abide. Stay. Remain. Transformation is relational before it is behavioral.
There is a difference between trying to be like Jesus and being with Jesus. One exhausts you. The other remakes you. Imagine Jesus sitting with His disciples, men who are inconsistent, fearful, proud, and often clueless. And yet He looks at them and says, “Follow Me.” Not because they’re impressive, but because He is.
He doesn’t ask them to become like Him before they walk with Him. He asks them to walk with Him so they can become like Him.
That’s the pattern.
Jesus doesn’t transform people from a distance. He does it up close, in conversation, in correction, in compassion, in shared life. And He’s doing the same with you. Every moment of conviction, every tug toward obedience, every discomfort with sin, every longing for holiness are not random spiritual sensations. They are the fingerprints of Christ forming Christlikeness in you.
And So, where is Christ Forming You Today? Where is Jesus inviting you to surrender something you’ve been protecting? Where is He calling you to trust Him instead of yourself? Where is He exposing a lie, you’ve believed for too long? Where is He awakening a desire for holiness you didn’t have before? Becoming like Jesus is rarely loud. It’s usually slow, steady, and stubborn — like a seed pushing through soil. But it is happening. Right now. In you. You are not stuck. You are not static. You are not abandoned to your own effort. The God who saved you is the God who is shaping you and He finishes what He starts.
Pray Lord Jesus, that we know You as the image of the invisible God, and that You have called us to share in Your life. Pray you shape us, confront us, comfort us. Pray You pull us away from the things that deform us, and draw us into the places where Your Spirit restores us. Pray You make us patient with Your process and confident in Your promise. Pray we want to look like You, not for our glory, but for Yours. Amen.
Blessings,
John Lawson
