Why Me, Lord?

“Why me, Lord?” is one of the most honest prayers a believer ever prays. It’s the cry that rises when life wounds us, when God’s plans bewilder us, or when His calling feels heavier than our strength. Scripture never shames this question, it sanctifies it. The Bible shows that “Why me, Lord?” is often the doorway into deeper trust, deeper surrender, and deeper revelation of God’s character. Judges 6:14–16 — Gideon’s protest

Gideon’s “Why me?” reveals that God often calls us precisely where we feel weakest so His strength can be displayed through us.

Exodus 3:10–12 — Moses’ hesitation

Moses’ “Who am I?” shows that God’s call is never based on human adequacy but on divine presence.

Luke 1:28–34 — Mary’s astonishment

Mary’s “How can this be?” reminds us that God’s assignments often exceed human understanding but never exceed His grace.

Message: There are moments when God’s will collides with our expectations, and the question slips out almost involuntarily: Why me, Lord? We ask it when suffering arrives uninvited, when responsibility feels too great, when obedience costs more than we imagined, or when God’s calling interrupts the life we carefully arranged.

But Scripture reveals something astonishing: God often chooses people at the very moment they feel least capable, least prepared, least worthy. “Why me?” is not a sign of weak faith, it is the beginning of honest faith. It is the moment when our self‑confidence collapses and God’s sufficiency begins.

The Lord does not choose us because we are strong; He chooses us because His strength will be made visible in our weakness. He does not call us because we are ready; He calls us because His grace will make us ready. He does not place burdens on us to break us; He places callings on us to reshape us.

And So, “Why me, Lord?” becomes a holy question when it leads us to discover that God’s choice is never random, it is redemptive. He chooses us so that Christ may be formed in us, so that His glory may be revealed through us, and so that His purposes may unfold around us. The real mystery is not Why me? The real mystery is Why does God love me so fiercely that He refuses to leave me unchanged?

Pray Lord, when I ask “Why me?” You meet me with Your presence. Pray You turn my confusion into trust, my fear into obedience, my weakness into Your strength. Pray You teach me to see Your calling not as burden but as grace and let every question become an invitation into deeper surrender. Amen.
