What Might God Do If We Truly Gave Our Hearts, Minds, Souls, Our Whole Selves To Him?

Good Morning Friends,

Hosea’s poetry and Jesus’ teaching meet us with the same hopeful question: What might God do if we truly gave our hearts, minds, souls, our whole selves, to Him?

Scripture Summary

•             Hosea 14:2–10 — God invites Israel to return with honest words, to renounce false saviors, and to trust His mercy. God promises healing, renewed life, flourishing, and faithfulness. The wise walk in these ways; the unfaithful stumble.

•             Mark 12:28–34 — Jesus names the greatest commandments: love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. The scribe recognizes that such love is greater than any sacrifice, and Jesus tells him he is “not far from the kingdom.”

•             Matthew 22:37 — Jesus again affirms wholehearted love for God as the center of life.

Message: Both Hosea and Jesus acknowledge that we are not always faithful—and rarely “all in.” Yet both also reveal something astonishing: God believes we can respond to His love, and His love comes first. God’s faithfulness awakens ours. Hosea speaks to people who have wandered, yet God promises healing, renewal, and flourishing. Jesus calls us to the same wholehearted devotion—heart, mind, soul, and strength—because love is the true fulfillment of God’s law. The challenge is that we often want to give God one part of ourselves while keeping the rest under our own control. We want to shape our future with our own hands. But the life God offers comes when we surrender all of who we are—when we trust grace enough to let God lead.

And So, when we give God our whole selves, we find peace, strength, and purpose. We begin to value what matters, love our neighbors with patience and mercy, forgive freely, and walk the narrow way of wisdom. In submitting to God’s love, we become fearless, renewed, and able to help others as we ourselves are helped. This is what we were made for.

Pray that we do not hold back our commitment to the way, the truth, and the life. Pray for grace to overcome unbelief and to submit fully to God. Pray to remember that God is love, that we are redeemed for a purpose, and that holiness calls us to sow righteousness. Pray that we seek God’s mercy, treat others as we long to be treated, and love God and neighbor with all our hearts, minds, and souls. Pray that we are all in—fighting the good fight by loving as Jesus taught.

Blessings,

John Lawson
