Good Morning Friends, Yesterday we shared in worship the collective unison experience of the Lord’s Prayer. I imagine you …
Good morning, Brother John,
Yes, the Lord’s prayer is good, for both unison and individual prayer. But while I agree with your desire to speak of God’s unconditional love and forgiveness, that isn’t the center of this prayer. In fact, if we take it seriously, it challenges us to our very core. The prayer does not thank God for His willingness to forgive. Rather, it asks God to forgive us in the same way we forgive others. I suspect our willingness to forgive is far weaker than God’s. Imagine how different it would be if God did forgive us AS we forgive others. Would He wait as long to forgive as we do? Would He hold back His daily bread the way we hold back from those who have harmed us? I we really want to ask for His kingdom to come on earth AS it is in heaven, we need to be far more intentional about forgiving than we really are.
hesed ve shalom,
