Do You Have Something In Need Of Repair?
Good Morning Friends,
Slow down we are moving too fast…maybe in the wrong direction. Just how long have we been exceeding the manufacturer’s recommended performance limits? Our gas mileage is poor. Our driving habits atrocious. Just what safety standards are we forfeiting? Something is wrong we can sense it. Glance in the rear view mirror for just a moment. Look out over your windshield. Pull over. Take a look under the hood. Check your engine. Do You Have Something In Need Of Repair?
Scripture: On that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen, and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old
Amos 9:11, 14 (NRSV)
The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion— to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his glory. They shall build up the ancient ruins, they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.
Isaiah 61:1-4 (NRSV)
Message: There is a price to pay when we do not follow the rules. If we ignore the warning signs disaster will surely follow. The Christmas message is much the same…repent, the Kingdom is at hand… relationships need to be restored. Friends, we must stop breaking the physical and spiritual rules of the road. Who do we think we are? We are never going to set the ledger straight by working 24/7. So check your spiritual engine. Stop eating too much and exercising too little. How is your sanctifying oil pressure? Are you about to blow a gasket? The balance of life must be restored. After all that is why Jesus was born. That is why the Spirit is born in us and during this season maybe
we can demonstrate our innate desire to complete that which is unfinished and perhaps embrace God’s desire to complete in us a work which He has started. Friends, the beauty of Christmas is that what God fixes is better than the original. God’s love is the solution to what is broken. And perhaps God has anointed you to help repair the brokenness in someone’s life today. Look for the opportunity to be accountable to the law of love. Do not be caught without the manufacturer’s approved roadside assistance on the spiritual journey… for the repair bill is too large for you to pay on your own. Recharge another’s spiritual battery today.
Pray we do not run out of gas. Pray we take care of our body and spirit. Pray the oil of purpose and joy be replenished. Pray we ask God to drive. Pray our minor problems do not become big ones. Pray we check our engines before it is too late. Pray we repent.
Pray
we sing praise to a God that repairs that which is broken. Pray we never feel broken beyond repair. Pray we find joy in God’s resolution even before we contemplate ones of our own.
Blessings,
John Lawson
