What Are We Sowing And Reaping This Labor Day?

What Are We Sowing And Reaping This Labor Day?

Good Morning Friends,

In today’s scripture Paul calls us to take personal responsibility to live creatively in our lives knowing that if we ignore God we will harvest only weeds. The focus of the scripture is in how we are to handle the work we have been given… the burdens we bear.   We learn that some burdens are meant to be shared, some burdens are meant to be shouldered and some burdens are meant to be shed. We are called to share the burdens of people’s faults and failures, bear their sorrow and grief, and so complete Christ’s law of love…Christ’s law of sowing and reaping.  We are called to shoulder the consequences of personal sin, to avoid playing the blame game. We are called to take personal responsibility. We can choose to sin but we cannot choose the consequences. Finally, we are called to shed the burden that Christ has claimed. Although we may still experience the consequences of our actions in this world, Christ makes sure that there is no harvest of condemnation in the next for those that believe. Today we have off but tomorrow work begins again. So friends, rest but also learn when to share, shoulder and shed your burdens. What Are We Sowing And Reaping This Labor Day?

Scripture: Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. For if those who are nothing think they are something, they deceive themselves. All must test their own work; then that work, rather than their neighbor’s work, will become a cause for pride. For all must carry their own loads. Those who are taught the word must share in all good things with their teacher. Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow. If then you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit. So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest-time, if we do not give up. So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.

Galatians 6:2-10 (NRSV)

And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Isaiah 30:21 (NRSV)

Message: We all may not gain wealth but that we all have burdens… So, caste your burdens to the Lord and ask Him if He wants you the share, shoulder or shed them.  When it comes to our faith and God the law of sowing and reaping always applies. Get to work. When we receive this love and the wonderful grace it bestows…when we learn that Jesus is a love that lasts and He is a Lord that lives then we also see that in Him we have a labor that lingers. God, in His infinite love, is preparing us for our inheritance. So let us love, let us forgive, let us be justified, let us labor and be sanctified. Let us rejoice that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Let us walk and work with God.

Pray we labor in service of the Lord.
Pray that the tears of our labors turn to joy. Pray that we smile at our future. Pray that we are steadfast, excelling in the work of the Lord. Pray that our labor not be in vain. Pray that we not be deceived.  Pray that we keep the dream alive, continuing on in the faith and hoping in what God has planted in our lives. Pray we live for others, just like Jesus.  Pray that we prepare for our next encounter with God by living a life of sowing the seeds of our faith.

Blessings,

John Lawson
