Are You Seizing The Day?
Good Morning Friends,
As we grow older the more important it seems to make sure we have learned to grab every minute and every second of the day, and make the most of it. And if we are smart we appropriate it for the Lord while living in the present moment with an eye on the prize. This is something that Joshua understood, and when He allowed God to work in His divine timing, Israel experienced a great victory. The very nature of time became the preview of God. The problem for all of us is that the clock is always running the wrong way, and we simply cannot stop its precipitous crawl toward the next tick. We lose moments to the past, out of our reach, never to be regained. We hope to live a Kairos life in a Cronos world but find it difficult. Are You Seizing The Day?
Scripture: On the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the Israelites, Joshua spoke to the Lord; and he said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and Moon, in the valley of Aijalon.” And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in mid-heaven, and did not hurry to set for about a whole day.
Joshua 10:12-13a (NRSV)
Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.
Psalms 46:10 (NRSV)
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalms 118:24 (NRSV)
in due time he revealed his word through the proclamation with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior,
Titus 1:3 (NRSV)
But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.
2 Pet 3:8 (NRSV)
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children.
Galatians 4:4-5 (NRSV)
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.
1 John 4:7-4:8 (NRSV)
Message: Most people today seem very busy and always in a hurry. People walk fast, drive fast, talk fast, eat fast; and after eating, they all too often stand up and keep running perhaps too fast for their own good. It is easy for people to get in a hurry and forget to cherish the present moment. It is easy to forget to realize that there is joy in the journey, and it is easy to become so time-oriented that we forget to be God-oriented and God-centered. Sometimes we just need to be still enough to really hear what the Lord is saying concerning life. We need to be sensitive enough to live with God’s timing of events. The Bible contains numerous promises that God wants to fulfill in our lives, but we need to give God time to come through for us. There is a season and time for things. Unfortunately we live in a world where people have become so accustomed to getting the things they want exactly when they want them, that they subconsciously feel that God’s promises and their spiritual victories should occur in the same way. But the reality is that slow and steady wins the race. Sometimes we just have to stop what we are doing and wait for God. You see everyone has got a dream they can follow or squander. But dreams do not come immediately, and on demand. Preparation makes a difference. There are battles to be fought and won. Here living our faith is the foundation. Hope is the attitude and the focus of love is the action that helps us to live divine moments. That is why it is so important to give God our time. It all belongs to God, for He created time. So if you desire to see God move in a mighty way in your life, then you need to give the Lord your time; not only when things are going good, but in the heat of the battle as well. You see, God is not bound by the confines of space or time. God can flow into our existence when we least expect Him. So we should always live our days looking for those moments, those inexplicable times when His will and his way intersect with our daily walks. They can happen anytime. There are special moments each day if we are patient for them and prepared. They may not end up on the evening news but they are nevertheless significant. They are moments of love that bring us victory. They flow into our existence when we least expect them and if we give them the opportunity to fully form we have seized the day.
Pray we are ready, waiting and watching for God to move in our lives. Pray we become human catalysts for creating divine impact. Pray we seize divine moments…God moments in recognition that time is more qualitative than quantitative. Pray we have the time of our lives because we are living them abundantly to God’s glory. Pray we learn that in order to be mighty in God, and walk in victory, that we must daily devote our time to seeking the Lord and His presence in our life. Pray we realize that we cannot rush God. Pray
we realize that God is not hurried along. Pray still that we appropriate grace right now in this moment. Pray we recognize the need for salvation right now. Pray we repent of our sins right now. Pray we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and that place where Kairos and Chronos converge time at the foot of the cross. Pray we believe who He is and in what He said and what He did. Pray we receive Him. Pray we open our hearts to Him forever. Pray we understand, accept, believe and receive God’s grace of time. Pray we live with great gratitude. Pray we bear witness to God’s presence right now.
Blessings,
John Lawson
