How Is God Speaking To You?
Good Morning Friends,
There have been times when God spoke through prophets and through nature and at other times through scripture. We have all probably heard of the Shepherd’s call for his sheep. But for humans the message is about a relationship we are offered, and whether it is subtle or straightforward, it must ultimately pair Jesus with the position of Christ in a relationship with the Father and the Spirit. We need to hear the call of a Father for us, of a Son with us and a Spirit in us…We must come to realize that for there to be an eternal Father Creating there must be an eternal Son Redeeming with a Spirit that is within us Sustaining our very being and very flesh. Indeed God speaks in a variety of ways. He is not limited to one single way. God spoke through a burning bush. He spoke through a cloud. He often spoke through angels. He even spoke through a donkey. And these are not bad ways, but there is a better way. How Is God Speaking To You?
Scripture: Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Hebrews 1:1-3 (NRSV)
So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.
Romans 10:17 (NRSV)

Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; everyone who confesses the Son has the Father also.
1 John 2:22-23 (NRSV)
Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 (NRSV)
For God speaks in one way, and in two, though people do not perceive it.
Job 33:14 (NRSV)
Message: Processes are important and methods can be helpful, but ultimately satisfaction only comes from a relationship. Trusting in a process in order to feel satisfied is so misguided and empty. We can spend a lot of energy on the latest version of a discipline and fail to get the real message. You see, God does not want us to trust in methods alone. He wants us to trust in Him. Trusting in methods rather than in a Person seriously limits the way we experience God. It stifles love and turns it into a behavioral process when we limit the experience in this way. When we expect Him to speak to us only in predictable ways, we forget that God is much more complex than our perception of Him. What makes our faith unique is that God speaks through His Child in human flesh and His adopted children through His Spirit. Friends, the means God uses to communicate with us is irrelevant. The fact that He is communicating is what is critical. Methods are fine, but do not expect only to hear from God in predictable ways. Rather, open yourself up to other means by which God wants to commune with you. Love will find a way. Allow the Holy Spirit to make you aware to God’s message at all times, in every location, under any circumstance. Then you will experience God in an entirely new dimension. God will speak to you in your experiences. So cultivate a heart to hear God. The important thing is not how God communicates, but that He does. Be receptive.
Pray we are receptive to experiencing God in unexpected ways. Pray we realize that Jesus is the message. Pray we realize that Jesus gave his life to save ours. Pray we experience the love of God. Pray that those who have ears hear the call. Pray we be open to experience God in dreams and visions. Pray we experience God in the miracle of nature and in prophetic words. Pray also we hear God in a still, small voice and in the fire and even are open to the visitation of angels. Pray we experience God speaking in the middle of the night, during worship services, at mealtimes, during funerals, while we walk, through sermons, and in the middle of a storm.
Pray we believe though that Jesus is the better way, the truth and the life of an experience with God. Pray we believe Jesus is ruler of the universe, the redeemer of mankind, the perfect representation of His Father, the sustainer of the universe, the creator of all things, and heir to all things. Pray we believe that Jesus is the best way to grow in a relationship with God.
Blessings,
John Lawson
