What is Your Favorite Scripture?
Good Morning Friends,
I have seen the favorite scripture of people change from John 3:16, to Matthew 7:1-3 and just yesterday I heard it had again changed and now is Romans 12:2. And this is interesting because the scripture is addressed to: the called of Jesus Christ, the beloved of God, called saints. I like the choice for certainly it is one of the most important verses in scripture. Hopefully its message is for you. What is Your Favorite Scripture?
Scripture: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2 (NRSV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NRSV)
Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Matthew 7:1-3 (KJV)
Message: Today’s scripture from Romans calls us to place our lives before God, to yield our bodies, minds and wills to Him. We are called to strive, to learn the difference between making a decision to be a Christian and being committed to seeing it fulfilled in our daily lives. We are called to fix our attention on God, embracing and engaging in what He is doing in our life this very moment right now. We are to be open to the present; we are to be in the stream of the Holy Spirit. The challenge I think is having the right mind set in approaching every delicate situation. It is a renewing of the mind that we need to seek, being in the world, but not of it. Not conforming to the world’s expectations but being transformed. Certainly for the Christian there is a time to be removed from the world, seeking holiness, and the Bible is pretty clear on what that is, but as we mature I think we need to embrace the world once again, not in its worldliness and ungodliness but as a place of redemption. That is what Jesus did. So today’s message is really good news. The selection of scripture about people desiring a call and a task related to the Gospel is encouraging. I am beginning to like this scripture.
Pray that we commit ourselves to the Lord. Pray that we have enough sense to choose the greater possibilities in lives that seek and follow His plan. Pray we commit ourselves to personal growth. Pray we commit ourselves to the body of believers. Pray we make a commitment putting our talents and abilities to work. Pray we be available to work with other believers in ministry. Pray that we live in the Holy Spirit that knows the will of God…that we live in the Holy Spirit that gives life to our mortal minds and bodies and bears witness that we our His. Pray we are transformed. Pray we seek redemptive acts of purpose that glorify God.
Blessings,
John Lawson
