Do You Know The Power of Words?

Do You Know The Power of Words?

Good Morning Friends,

The silence of solitude as I type this makes me realize how precious words are. In the still small voice of them the words spoken can be creative, dynamic, and deterministic in the world around us. They can inspire. They can form. They can preserve. There is a message in well-chosen words and a wonder in the promise they share. Do You Know The Power of Words?

20Scripture: From the fruit of the mouth one’s stomach is satisfied; the yield of the lips brings satisfaction. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Proverbs 18:20-21 (NRSV)

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1 (NRSV)

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Psalm 19:14 (NRSV)

It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles.

Matthew 15:11 (NRSV)

3By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.*

Hebrews 11:3 (NRSV)

Message: The Bible gives us direct instruction on the words we should share. For example, it is clear that when we use our words out of anger, we aren’t doing ourselves or those around us any service. Thankfully Jesus can transform our hearts so that our words can truly be their best. Notice the power of words when we engage our mind with His Spirit before speaking. Then our words might indeed be kind, needed and true. Indeed, words can be very encouraging, and uplifting, and comforting, and empowering. But, they can also be degrading, critical, and divisive. So, we must be very careful with our words. So eat these words… Know that God Loves You. Friends, never underestimate the power of a word…the power of the Word. By our words we will be justified or condemned. Everything that exists came about by words. It follows that in addition to creating, words can destroy. Be careful what words you choose.

Pray we be honest and calm and have the right words for every situation. Pray our words give grace to those around us. Pray our words not be antagonistic. Pray we realize we are not only what we eat but what we speak.
Pray we are guided as an act of love to know when to speak out. Pray we know and experience times when being silent is the greatest kindness we might show to ourselves as well as others. Pray we realize that we can sin by what we say and that what we say can reveal how sinful we are. Pray we understand the great power of words. Pray we understand the great danger of words and the poison they can be. Pray we realize the power of words and the even greater power in the Word of God that is living and active. Pray we choose words wisely.

Blessings,
