Who Are All These People In White Robes?
Good Morning Friends,
When Adam and Eve sinned and become aware of their nakedness before God, God dressed them. Ever since man has been searching for the covering of holiness and innocence. For centuries Popes have worn red robes to symbolize Christ’s martyrdom and white to symbolize Christ innocence. Pope Francis, for example, wears the white as the symbol of the tunic of Christ. Typically Cardinals wear red, Bishops wear violet and Priests black. One of the most memorable image of the white vestment comes from the book of Revelation, but the image is not limited to this book. There is the transfiguration and the gleaming men at the tomb as well. Still one has to wonder about all these saintly people that seem to be coming from and going to this place we call paradise. Who Are All These People In White Robes?

Message: The movie The Robe, which came out in 1953, was about the Roman soldier who won Jesus’ robe at the crucifixion through a dice game. The story is about his conversion to Christianity and death at the hands of Caligula. Makes one wonder about what happens to us when we put on a vestment, whether a choir robe or priestly garb with thoughts of Christ. There are, of course, several robes of note in the Bible. There is the robe of sorrow that Job rents. There are the long robes of pretension of the scribes. There is the Roman’s purple robe of mockery given to Jesus. There is the best robe of righteousness given to the prodigal son. And there are the white robes of the redeemed…those robes of faith marred with tears and stained with history. Today’s scripture verses focus on the white robes. They form a perfect picture of Easter people who have died in the faith and are now in the presence of God forever.
Pray we are clothed with Christ’s righteousness. Pray we have been cleansed through the blood of Christ. Pray we meet and become in time one of those who no longer know pain, sorrow, hunger, thirst, or tears ever again. Pray we are clothed in the garment of salvation.
Blessings,
