What Do You Hear In Your Soul?

What Do You Hear In Your Soul?

Good Morning Friends,

Be still now. Quiet. Ok and now that inner chatter, let it go too. Ok just stop it, stop trying to protect, to rescue, to judge, to manage…to control the lives around you. Now your own ego…let it go too. Submit to the silence. Good… good. Gradually close your eyes and as the darkness falls wiping everything clean, exhale and fall, fall up. Now you may be ready to listen through the word of God. So, What Do You Hear In Your Soul?

Scripture: Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

Isaiah 55:3 (NIV)

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Romans 10:17 (ESV)

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

John 10:27-28 (ESV)

God always answers, one way or another, even when people don’t recognize his presence.

Job 33:14 (Message)

37On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, 38and let the one who believes in me drink. As* the scripture has said, “Out of the believer’s heart* shall flow rivers of living water.” ‘

John 7:37-38 (NRSV)

Let me hear of your steadfast love in the morning, for in you I put my trust. Teach me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

Psalm 143:8 (NRSV)

Message: Do you hear what I hear? A song of stars dancing and the sea’s big voice high above us. Do you hear a child sleeping in the night waiting to bring us goodness and light? I hope you do. But perhaps that is not what you hear at all. Heraclitus once said: “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.” We are ever changing. So when God speaks to us… I am not writing about an audible voice here but a nudging of our consciousness… it is about change. Maybe you hear God speak to you in Church but the church is changing too. You should know you are not alone if you do not hear God in institutions. The challenge so moved Isaiah that he cried out for attention. He had a very encouraging invitation to convey. He wanted people to listen to what he was hearing from God. Then Jesus came and gave the invitation in person. The beauty is that God is more than capable of reaching out to you with a message right now as you think about a morning cup of coffee and driving off to wherever it is you are going. And here the Spirit is telling me that I spend way too much time hiding who I am and way too little time desiring to be exactly who God made me to be. Ok maybe you get the same message. So we need to repent for sure but then relax. You see God loves us. So hold on to that as you are swept up in the spirit and know that love, God’s love, is the only thing not in flux. Have confidence in God. He is just a whisper away. Hear His voice and follow. It is Jesus.

Pray we slow down. Pray we be in the moment. Pray we listen to our soul helping us to honor what is it we are supposed to do. Pray we pray for peace everywhere. Pray we experience the amazing power of the Word of God as it speaks to us. Pray we read scripture every day. Pray the scripture reads us. Pray we open our hearts to love and listen. Pray we listen to God in the Stream of Holy History and remember again…hear again…as if for the very first time God’s love flowing over us. Pray we can hear the river of our soul carrying us forward. Pray we cry a river of love. Pray we are born from above.

Blessings,

John Lawson
