He Restores My Soul
Good Morning Friends,
There were many time in the Bible when Joel, Jeremiah, David, Paul and others got into a bit of a funk. In the Psalms David writes about the God that he experiences. David claims that of all the things we might do to feel better, ultimately it is up to God for He Restores My Soul.
Scripture: David wrote, “[The Lord] leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul.”
Psalm 23:2-3 (NRSV)
Let us . . . approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16 (NRSV)
I will repay you for the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent against you.
Joel 2:25 (NRSV)
For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NRSV)
Message: When drained of hope and strength it is God who gives life. When the pieces are broken, God puts them back together. When we are lost the Good Shepherd finds us and leads us to greener pastures. Sin separates us and we promise to make it all up to God, and we promise to make amends. But God tells us here that we have it all wrong. God’s justice brings punishment, but God’s mercy brings forgiveness, to the point of repaying our sins with blessings. What a God! What a promise! Grace!
Pray we are thankful and not forgetful of those moments when the Lord hears our cries of help and restores in us a right relationship. Pray that in the pain of the past and the progress to our peace in the future God would restore our souls. Pray we receive a double portion of restoration recognizing that we too can be generous. Pray we repent of our collective sin. Pray we drink deep of the water of life. Pray we believe that with God nothing is lost. Pray we rejoice! Pray we believe the best is yet to be.
Blessings,
John Lawson
