The Teamwork to Make the Dream Work
Good Morning Friends,
This week at One by One Leadership Foundation we brought together the community team to start a youth basketball league in Immokalee. It is a collaboration with cooperation. Also this week a friend of mine has a group of his old friends visiting in Southwest Florida. He is hosting them and accommodating their needs. They are not all non-ambulatory but still he jokingly calls them the “wheelchair brigade.” The two events collided in my mind and reminded me an inspirational commercial that you should watch. Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwndLOKQTDs We have not yet added a wheelchair basketball component to the activities in Immokalee, but you never know when you open the doors. If the need arises, I trust we have The Teamwork to Make the Dream Work.
Scripture: The master said to the slave, “Go out into the roads and lanes, and compel people to come in, so that my house may be filled.”
Luke 14:23 (NRSV)
from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.
Ephesians 4:16 (NRSV)
Message: Ok beer commercials are not for kids, still if you watched the video I hope you got the message. It should captivate you as it did me. It should pull at your heartstrings and help you realize that the combined effective action of a group to achieve a common goal is a recipe for success. The practical reality for it to work is that the team must actually care for one another. The team must communicate and its members not be focused on their individual interests. Friends, teamwork is something to enjoy not endure. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Stephen Covey put it this way, “Dependent people need others to get what they want. Independent people can get what they want through their own efforts. Interdependent people COMBINE their OWN efforts with the efforts of OTHERS to ACHIEVE their Greatest SUCCESS.”
Pray for the empowerment of others in need of access to experience their friends. Pray we reach out to others to help them and to be open to receiving help as well as giving it. Pray this Lent that those things we give up and those behaviors we add contribute to the life experience of others encouraging them to be part of the team. Pray we always invite God to given us the power of positive thinking. Pray we strive to unite with the people of God in support of community.
Blessings,
John Lawson
