Our Dessert.

Our Dessert.

Good Morning Friends,

Yesterday I went to a luncheon and heard a Federal Reserve Bank President from Kansas talk about the Fed’s 4 trillion dollar bond portfolio and I noticed that already on the table when we arrived was Our Dessert.

Scripture: Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Psalm 34:8 (NRSV)

I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Look to him, and be radiant; so your faces shall never be ashamed. This poor soul cried, and was heard by the LORD, and was saved from every trouble. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. O taste and see that the LORD is good; happy are those who take refuge in him. O fear the LORD, you his holy ones, for those who fear him have no want. The young lions suffer want and hunger, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

Psalm 34:1-10 (NRSV)

Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war and assembled at Sokoh in Judah. They pitched camp at Ephes Dammim, between Sokoh and Azekah. Saul and the Israelites assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah and drew up their battle line to meet the Philistines. The Philistines occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them. A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span.
He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His shield bearer went ahead of him. Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me. If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.”

1 Samuel 17:1-9 (NRSV)

When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.”

John 2:9-10 (NRSV)

Message: Well if I keep eating all those desserts I will become too big to move, and it is a mistake not to enjoy them at all. But if you think you can become too big to fail… think again. It did not work for Goliath and it will not work for you either. The enemy is fierce but God is up to the task. The only thing too big to fail is God. Petra says it this way: “He’s loving and merciful. His grace is unsearchable. He’s Lord over sea and sod. There is none who is like our God. He reigns from his throne on high. He reigns over you and I. I’ll testify. Too big, too big…Our God is too big to fail.” Friends, lions are hungry. So put your trust in God and know this…first or last, God’s dessert is always good.

Pray we are lion alert not lion dessert. Pray we realize that God is the only way to satisfy our hunger. Pray we realize that prosperity comes from God. Pray we not get so full that we forget to leave room for God. Pray we learn the power of leaving the best for last.

Blessings,

John Lawson
