Enigma of Kerygma

Enigma of Kerygma

Good Morning Friends,

I hope you are listening for what God is doing in your life. No, not all the stuff people tell you are supposed to do and not just the stories of the Bible as they apply to your life, but what God is doing right now in this moment in you. Maybe God is whispering something in your ear as a proclamation for you to act on and to share. Maybe today you will be reached in a teaching moment or share one in the Enigma of Kerygma.

Scripture: Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years.

Hebrews 3:7–9 (NKJV)

In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming,

Matthew 3:1 (NRSV)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Luke 4:18-19 (NRSV)

in due time he revealed his word through the proclamation with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior,

Titus 1:3 (NRSV)

But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him?

Romans 10:14 (NRSV)

Now to God who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages

Romans 16:25 (NRSV)

Message: Kerygma is really a way of saying proclamation. The challenge is finding the proclamation of Christ in us. Jesus presented Himself with a proclamation saying “I am.” It was what Jesus knew about Himself and from His own mouth came an admission that He is what He says and thinks. It was not something from the minds of other people but from the mind of Jesus…the Wisdom of God.

Here are His verbal proclamation of “I am’s” in the gospel.

1.  “I am the Alpha and Omega.”

2.  “I am the Light of the World.”

3.  “I am the Bread of Life.”

4. “I am the Door.”

5.  “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”

6.  “I am the Good Shepherd.”

7.  “I am the True Vine.”

8. “I am the Resurrection and the Life.”

Friends, the way of kerygma is in keeping the “I am’s” of Christ in our hearts. These are His assuring words to live by. His credibility is at stake. Your doubts do not change the truth about Him. There are not many self-disclosures of Christ that are known to men. Meditate upon them that they would come alive in your spirit in the presence of the King of Kings who is waiting to rule in your life.

Pray we are faithful to the call of the Shepherd King. Pray we listen to His voice and powerful words of self-disclosure. Pray we come face to face with who we are in Christ’s strength and our weakness. Pray we proclaim Christ’s birth in us. Pray we proclaim that Christ was and is the awaited Messiah. Pray our life is a testimony and witness and proclamation of the Holy Spirit ruling in us….of God working through us. Pray we proclaim Christ as King of Kings and ruler of us all, each day until the day of His return or the day we are called home. Pray we believe so that though we may die, yet shall we live.

Blessings,

John Lawson
