Nothing
Good Morning Friends,
This morning I woke up late to the coolness of the fall air thinking what message I should bring. Initially it was like a Coke Zero commercial. Nada… goose eggs…then the light bulb went on. Yes, what compels me this moment is not what I had but what was missing. Maybe closure and completeness is in becoming less… allowing God to be more until what is left of our sin is Nothing.
Scripture: What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NIV)
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
For with God nothing shall be impossible.
Luke 1:37 (KJV)
Message: So what is the core of thought around this nugget of nothing? Has religion been transformed to the point by the society that it has become nothing? Maybe the equation is not so complicated. Maybe less is more. I think about Joseph sold into slavery having nothing. Jacob starving to death with nothing. Job losing everything. David as a fugitive. King Hezekiah before the armies of Sennacherib. Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego before King Nebuchadnezzar. Peter was down to nothing when he denied Christ. Jesus empting himself. Maybe it is as simple as Jesus plus nothing equals salvation. Friends, when we are down to nothing, God is up to something.
Pray we believe in nothing but the blood of Jesus…nothing but the love of Jesus… nothing but the truth of Jesus. Pray we claim victory in nothing but our surrender to the King of Kings. Pray we believe in God’s miraculous provision when we have nothing.
Blessings,
John Lawson
