When We First Recognized Jesus

When We First Recognized Jesus
Good Morning Friends,
Last Sunday our pastor following the announcement of a church wide dinner, as he was sharing a reverse image picture at the children’s chat at church, talked to the children about how art reveals something about us. Some of the children…some of the adults watching did not see…at least not immediately.
I think it takes a while for the mind to put it all together… before the light comes on and the experience sinks in of the memory of that moment of When We First Recognized Jesus.
Scripture: That very day two of them were going to a village named Emma’us, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.  But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.
Luke 24:13-16
There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
John 1:9-10 (NIV)
Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants.”
Luke 10:21 (NRSV)
Message: I believe that if we seek Jesus in the shadows, symbols, people and patterns of the Bible we can better recognize Jesus at work today. I do not know why it was difficult for the disciples to recognize the risen Lord. I do not know why some children can see Jesus in the picture and others cannot. Maybe it was because they were expecting to see Jesus in a different way. What I do know is that we can experience Jesus in listening to Scripture and sharing in the Communion of breaking Bread and the sharing of Wine together. The disciples recognized Jesus when they had broken bread together. But I do hope you can also recognize Jesus in the miracles of this life. I do hope you will understand that being the Body of Christ together requires us to see Jesus in one another. Do how is Christ revealing Himself to you?
Pray we have enough faith to seek Jesus. Pray we hear His voice. Pray when we see we keep seeing. Pray we grasp the reality of Christ’s presence. Pray through His grace we are made to be more like Jesus. Pray we become a child of God. Pray we show others the image of Christ hidden in us.
Blessings,
John Lawson
