El Shaddai

El Shaddai
Good Morning Friends,
I am praying for my friends H and Reid who are in Haiti on a mission trip this very moment in their desire to help my friends Gladys and Bishop with the schools and clinics that God has given them to lead in Tabarre and Mibelais, Haiti. I am praying for my friend Jack who is looking at the possibility of a double knee replacement and may go into surgery this morning. But I am also praying for a friend of mine, Ricardo who is starting a new ministry.
Ricardo is drawing from his professional work experience and blending it with mission and ministry. There is wisdom in that approach…but also risk. Ricardo has arranged the delivery of shipping containers around the world for many years and now has started to take this knowledge placed in him and give it to God in service. He is calling the organization in honor of the name of God the Almighty. I have included scripture today that references the name….El Shaddai.
Scripture: The Lord said to Moses, “I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
Exodus 9:16 (NIV)
God also said to Moses, “I am the Lord.  I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself fully known to them.
Exodus 6:2-3 (NIV)
And God said to him, “I am God Almighty; be fruitful and increase in number. A nation and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants.
Genesis 35:11 (NIV)
because of your father’s God, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the skies above, blessings of the deep springs below, blessings of the breast and womb.
Genesis 49:25 (NIV)
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1 (NIV)
Message: I am praying for all sorts of people today. I am mentioning them by name because names matter. Everybody has a name, just as everyone has a purpose. The church and God even have a purpose. Joining names with purpose is what God does. We see it in the name El Shaddai. But this connection of purposes brings tensions. God is after all the one who creates, sustains, and changes, but also destroys. Still I have to believe that God has raised up people to join God in what it is that God desires. The great mystery is that in my breathing a prayer I am joining with others in worship of God. The great mystery is that in lifting up the names of people in the name of God something wonderful happens. The great mystery is that to have harmony there must be tension as people work out how to be a part of God’s purpose while still being part in this world.
Pray we rest in God. Pray we take refuge in His fortress. Pray we are redeemed from temptation. Pray we rely on His promises. Pray we are rescued from danger. Pray our requests are answered. Pray we realize that we do not control God’s purposes. Pray we realize that God will be what God will be. Pray we play our parts…sing our parts…pray our parts to complement the music of the maker.
