The Simpler Life
Good Morning Friends,
Last Friday as I was driving home through sheet rain in a thunder storm, lighting hit our house twice. I arrived home to see my wife, daughter and son in the hallway huddled together. The Chamber of Commerce will not tell you, but Florida is the lighting strike capital of the world. The first strike took out our well house, but only damaging a small wire. Regardless, we had no water.
The second took out our internet connection, cable T.V., phone and fried my computer. Surge protectors were of no help. The electricity had been conveyed by cable. My computer would never turn on again. With the mother board damaged I would have to get a whole new computer. The router and cable were also damaged. The damage was almost invisible to the eye. Still the effect was substantial. The weakest link had broken. After calling a repairmen to fix the problems we discovered that we would have water but regarding entertainment, computers and cable, we would be living, at least for a few days, The Simpler Life.
Scripture: Life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.
Luke 12:15 (NRSV)

so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

Romans 12:5 (NIV)
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:
1 Peter 4:10 (ESV)
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
Message: This last weekend God gave me the chance to rethink human success and the importance of backing up data more frequently. The world says success is power, possessions and pleasure. But after thinking about it as our family put together jigsaw puzzles, I am pretty sure real success is being in the will of God regarding our life’s purpose connected to a Kingdom outcome. That does not have a lot to do with possessions, but much to do about passion and people…. connecting the puzzle pieces. Connecting with scripture. Connecting with other believers. Connecting with Christ.
Pray we put God before gold. Pray we put people above pleasures. Pray we have a God directed passion. Pray we invest in people. Pray that we realize that all we have and all we are is simply a gift from God. Pray we say thank you. Pray we see what truly matters. Pray we realize that we are only a small part of God’s bigger plan. Pray we realize that small things can matter a lot.
