Touching the Hem…the Holes.

Touching the Hem…the Holes.
Good Morning Friends,
Have you ever experienced the presence of God? I hope you have. It is not the same as receiving a blessing, wonderfully reassuring though that is. It is really more about touch. The first sense we acquire…the first language with which we communicate. Here is a foundation to help integrate our other senses… Something to help heal and connect the tissue of the Body.
The last few days we have been exploring how our senses open up to us an opportunity to develop a relationship with the divine. We have looked at sight and smell and today we explore the silent broadcast of communication….the prayer of a possibility ofTouching the Hem…the Holes.
Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
John 20:27 (NIV)
Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years; and though she had spent all she had on physicians, no one could cure her. She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his clothes, and immediately her hemorrhage stopped. Then Jesus asked, “Who touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and press in on you.” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; for I noticed that power had gone out from me.” When the woman saw that she could not remain hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before him, she declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed.
Luke 8:43-47 (NRSV)
Message: I do want you to experience a fresh touch of God that will renew your worship and rejuvenate your witness. What I am writing about here is the essence of God…the character of God…the presence of God Glory’s touching our souls. But I am also writing about our deep desire to strain our muscles, to press with a purpose of understanding something that is irresistibly strong. If the plan is that God will possess the earth through the frail bodies of humans, maybe the power of touch in each of us helps us to connect in a way that becomes a Body able to touch in return. Friends, know that God’s touch is personal, God’s touch is powerful, and God’s touch is proof of God’s compassion in each of us uniting us to Himself and to each other.
Pray for those people who are untouchables. Pray we realize that our uncleanliness does not make God unclean. Pray God is touched when we pray. Pray we are vulnerable enough to be touched. Pray we dare to be touched by Jesus and moved by compassion to touch in return. Pray Christ take form in us.
Blessings and Presence,
John Lawson
