Learn to Trust
Good Morning Friends,
Looking at today’s text I have to admit that a lot of life is doing things one does not want to do. Some of these activities are a benefit and some not so much so. We learn to face these events in silence, suffering and if smart with a smile. But even before that we need to Learn to Trust.
Scripture: The psalmist wrote, “Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.”
Psalm 31:5 (NIV)
“Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
Mark 14:36 (NIV)
Message: In his last dying hour Jesus committed his spirit to the Father. Putting ones heart in God’s hands is a challenge. Drinking from a bitter cup is not easy. Jesus agonized over this more so than his own rejection….more so than his own painful death…for looking into the cup, Jesus also saw the sins of the world. Jesus drank of the cup of trembling so we would not have to. Friends it is not just death that is in the cup. It is not even God’s wrath. There is something much more disconcerting. We are in the cup! Jesus was asked to drink all our darkness….Friends, all our sin is a pretty toxic brew. If we drink this cup we die. Thankfully we are just too pathetic to even attempt it, but there is one thing, we have to believe that Jesus drank it for us. We have to learn to trust in God.
Pray we weep over our sins. Pray our faith grows stronger. Pray we begin to understand the difference between trust and trying. Pray we do the Lord’s will. Pray we realize that the only safe place to be is in the Lord’s arms. Pray we follow Jesus. Pray we choose the path of faith over the law. Pray we choose the path of the Spirit over the way of human effort. Pray we choose the blessing over the curse. Pray we trust in the Lord to save us.
Blessings,
John Lawson
