Learn to Trust and Prepare
Good Morning Friends,
In Florida we are getting into the peak of the Hurricane Season at just about the same time we are getting ready for school to start again. For people who live here year round it creates an interesting dynamic that demands of us to Learn to Trust and Prepare.
Scripture: We love because [God] first loved us.
1 John 4:19 (NRSV)
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.
Matthew 24:42-46 (NIV)
For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.
Job 19:25 (ESV)
Message: Making preparations with extra water, flashlights, batteries and food is part of living in Florida during the Hurricane Season. But another part is understanding how much we depend on others. How much we really depend on God to prepare us. Storms do not just sneak up on us anymore. We have radar and weathermen forecasting alerts to guide our behavior. We have learned to trust on them as much as our own senses. But there is an interesting twist here for the faithful that believe in the Sovereignty of God, for during this season we have to ask ourselves questions about suffering and just how it is that God is working everything together for His glory and our ultimate good. We have to ask just how active God going to be in this world and in its people. I think that how we answer these questions is really a measure of how much we have learned to love and be loved. Friends, staying watchful and still focus on working is harder during the Hurricane Season and almost impossible during the storm. But if we seek an opportunity to serve others during and after the storm it might just help us too. Friends, through prayer we are prepared for the storms of life so that we do not get blown away emotionally like chaff when the winds begin to blow.
Pray we know that Jesus loves us. Pray we know that Jesus calms storms. Pray we not forget our spiritual preparation as well as physical preparations. Pray we realize it is easier to predict earthly storms than Christ’s return. Pray we prepare for both. Pray we are ready. Pray we trust and prepare.
