You Are What You Eat!

You Are What You Eat!
Good Morning Friends,
I am back from a two week 3,350 mile car camping trip into the heartland of the United States with my wife. We tent camped and hiked in a dozen different State and county parks and national memorials on our way to the mid-west and back to Florida. Sometimes we drove on politician parkways to avoid the Walmart stop lights and lake effect sprawl of the recreational areas. Sometimes we took back roads that were not on the fold maps from AAA… We used our I-Phones to guide us to destinations. Unfortunately we were not using this technology when we by mistake drove into Fort Benning Georgia.
Part of the trip was an obligation vacation. We visited relatives and took care of business. Still it was great fun. It was an adventure. On the way we saw wild turkey, mule deer, young white tail bucks, a herd of bison with calves and lots of birds. We saw sites of history, like the birthplace of Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Habitat for Humanity Village in Americus, Georgia. We walked part of the trail Lincoln took to Illinois from Kentucky and hiked the battlefield where Grant won his first victory on the control of the waterways of the Mississippi River in the Civil War. We also saw great natural beauty from the effects of glaciation. Hiking through rock gardens we saw great vista and waterfalls. We even went on a boat ride into a cave experiencing complete darkness and then the way to the light. We smelled the corn growing and the peanuts being processed. We saw coal mines and oil wells. We were serenaded by frogs and crickets going to sleep and woke up to the chorus of birds. It was great.  Only once did we have to pack up and move into a motel to avoid severe weather. And the tics and chiggers were not really that bad. We lived simply. I ate eight peanut and jelly sandwiches for lunch over the two weeks. I began to think you are not just where you walk but also, You Are What You Eat!
Scripture:Just as when a hungry person dreams of eating and wakes up still hungry, or a thirsty person dreams of drinking and wakes up faint, still thirsty, so shall the multitude of all the nations be that fight against Mount Zion.
Isaiah 29:8 (NRSV)
The Lord says, “Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.”
Isaiah 29:14 (NIV)
Message: So much of Theology can be like the tea cakes conjured by evil queen of Narnia and given to Edmund in the Chronicles of Narnia stories. I do not know about you but a lot of the theology out there is like this air food. It really is an illusion after a while. It makes us think and that it is nutritious but the effect does not last. Friends, the only thing that is not an illusion is when we trust in the Lord. Sometimes a person can think up a thing and it is as real as day in our minds. We do it all the time. But as I was eating those peanut butter sandwiches and thinking of a Quarter pounder with cheese it did not fill me up more. The thinking was not satisfying for long. Friends if you are trying to do great things in life you must have more than a superficial belief in God. Seek the truth. Seek the wisdom that begins at the cross. Seek the light that shines in the darkness. Do not get lost.
Pray we trust in the Lord. Pray God takes away our doubts and gives us confidence. Pray God takes away our weaknesses and gives us strength. Pray God takes away our despair and gives us hope. Pray God takes away our defeats and gives us victory. Pray God removes our problems and gives us solutions. Pray God takes away our failures and gives us success. Pray we experience the real thing.
