Real Value
Good Morning Friends,
There are lots of things the world encourages us to seek that in God’s eyes are not essential for a spiritual relationship. Scripture tells us that the true worth of success, knowledge and wealth cannot compare to the significance of a person’s heart. Friends, today we take a look at how we are to invest our lives in a way that returns Real Value.
Scripture: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.
Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NIV)
Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes, and I will observe it to the end. Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart. Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it. Turn my heart to your decrees, and not to selfish gain. Turn my eyes from looking at vanities; give me life in your ways. Confirm to your servant your promise, which is for those who fear you. Turn away the disgrace that I dread, for your ordinances are good. See, I have longed for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life.
Psalm 119:33-40 (NRSV)
Message: Do you consider yourself a Godly person? If so, what do you value? Don’t get me wrong. Wealth, success, strength and knowledge are not bad, but they are not all there is to life. Have you given any thought to how God sees us and what and whom he might desire us to consider important? Friends, incline your heart and consider what you need not just want. Consider all those things one can get caught up in that lead to emptiness. Scripture tells us that some things bring delight to God and some things do not. So reevaluate your priorities. The God of the universe has decided to reveal spiritual things to us. Here we discover that the only thing worth bragging about is our relationship with our Creator, Sustainer and Redeemer. Friends, let me give an endorsement. The real breakfast of champions is God’s word. Get up and face the day. Read and learn about the things that bring delight to God and go do what you were made to do from the beginning of time…Love.
Pray that we value the Word made flesh. Pray we value a relationship with God that develops in us understanding, knowledge, kindness, justice and righteousness. Pray we value the spiritual renewal of both people and place. Pray we value the poor and vulnerable. Pray we value leadership that seeks the welfare of others. Pray we value places and people of worship that seek to unite resources for the things God values. Pray we value reconciliation so we might tear down the barriers that keep us from a focus on the things that are really important. Pray we are never unkind to anyone.
Blessings,
John Lawson
